A highly anticipated topic on the June 6, 2023 City Council meeting agenda was discussion of the filling the vacancy of District 2 Council seat following Barry Leonard's resignation. Essentially, the Council had the choice of calling a special election, adding the race to the March 2024 primary ballot or appointing a replacement to serve for the open seat.
After considering comments submitted by residents via email and in person and discussing the options, Council voted 3-1 to appoint a replacement for the remainder of Councilman Leonard’s term (i.e., until the next General Municipal election in November 2024). The Council vote included a stipulation that the appointee sign an agreement to not run for election in November 2024. Applications are being accepted through June 30th.
